Continuing to grow as a community and as professionals.

In 2020-2021, I had the opportunity to become the Director of Media for the Midwest Association of Filipino Americans (MAFA). This organization was created to support and uplift Filipino-Americans college students living in the Midwest. It has now grown to supporting all midwest Filipino-Americans, not just students. As this organization and community continues to grow each year, so does our influence and scope. Naturally, it was now time to update and solidify a brand for MAFA. This is where I came in to become the Director of Media to change MAFA’s branding to fit the message and the look of the organization.

All of this starting at the top down with the organization’s logo…

The logo needed to show a certain level of sophistication. It needed to convey that even though we’re a large collective of college students, we’re also a professional network that needs to be taken seriously. We’re not just a student org that holds karaoke potluck nights on Thursday, we’re young professionals looking to start our careers and build a network of collaboration and cultural importance.

3 revisions later we arrived at the final design:

The @WeAreMAFA Instagram Page

The social media aspect of the project was a cent4ral component. One of the main ways we communicate with our members is through our social media platforms. Our biggest account being our Instagram account. We made events, reminders, general news and historical articles as well. These posts needed to have their own style and personality while also keeping a cohesive brand element.

In tune with a strong social presence, I created a website that operates as an archive for MAFA’s history and the member schools under the organization.
